Team BACKGROUND

Apptentive’s marketing team is made up of four roles: VP of Marketing, Communications Manager, and part time Events and Content managers. They also use freelancers for design work and video editing, as well as demand generation.

The marketing team releases at least 1 guide per quarter (although usually 2-3), and is constantly producing blog posts, white papers, videos, presentation decks, social media graphics, landing pages, and website content.

The biggest lift for Apptentive’s marketing team is the annual Benchmark report. Each report comes with it’s own campaign that runs the content gamut - a graphic whitepaper, landing page content, social media posts, online ad graphics, and a webinar.

TEAM Goals

Apptentive’s marketing priority is to drive leads, with both quarterly and monthly goals for MQLs and SALs. Content is responsible for all of their inbound traffic, which is the primary source of leads for marketing.

Their target market is any Fortune 2000 company with a mobile app. Specifically, they’re audience includes product managers, mobile marketers and customer experience leaders.

Problem

Before Slope, they used a combination of email, G Suite, and box to plan and manage their content workflow. A stakeholder would email a designer directly to request work, which would then be entered into a separate spreadsheet. Delivering iterative versions and the ensuing feedback would all happen through email.

The process was considered long and painful, especially when dealing with design or video content. Using third party services to send large files, sorting through attachments to find the right version, and organizing feedback from disparate threads all cost precious time and caused lots of frustration.

Managers and designers often had to work overtime to finish projects; the quality suffered in order to meet deadlines. With so many versions and so much confusion, the whole team was unhappy.
